Inspiring Tomorrow’s India

04-02-2022

Inspiring Tomorrow’s India is a series of interactive talk shows which provide EIS students an opportunity to interact with versatile and dynamic personalities across various sectors who have contributed to humanity through their work. Their journey becomes an inspiration to EIS students to pursue their individual passions and contribute toward building a Nation.

This month's session of Inspiring tomorrow' India was organized on Friday 4th Feb'22.

EIS had invited Dr. Santosh Podder from IISER, a known personality with over 12 years of research experience in a diverse spectrum of biology like genetic toxicology, immunology, radiation, and cancer biology. He has many distinctions and awards to his credit. He is currently working as a Senior Technical Officer at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER). He has authored over 16 research papers and different chapters in books. He is a member of many scientific societies all over the world.

The session gave a wonderful insight into his journey. The knowledge about Fluoride Induced Genotoxicity gave the students a view of the effects of Fluorosis on all the age groups. The best part of the information was his study and research on radiation in cancer cells. He informed that for this particular research he required blood very often so, he had experimented and researched by using his blood samples. He insisted that in life everyone has to have a PLAN B ready as at times life will teach you lessons in a bitter way.

He owed all his success to his teachers, mentors, family, and God.

EIS students enjoyed the Q&A sessions and came up with some fantastic questions like:
1) Sir, since you have worked in so many branches of science. Which is your favorite branch?
2) Have you done any experiments with animals? and if yes then which animals?
3) How did you find out your interest in Zoology for further studies?
4) Who is your inspiration in personal as well as in professional life?
5) How can we develop a scientific mindset?
6) What is your suggestion for students who want to pursue their career in research?

The session ended with a thank you message from the principal Dr. Uzma Zuberi. Ms. Amruta Giridas thanked Dr. Santosh Podder for taking time out of his busy day to virtually meet EIS students and share his expertise. EIS students gained valuable insight into his career and this was also an important career awareness activity for them.
